India’s First Native 5G Phone
Entering the saturated telecom market in 2016, Jio doesn’t need an introduction in India. The telecom company run by India’s now second-richest man is gearing up for a new smartphone, which can come with 5G support and become the country’s first local branded to do so. While the company is yet to make any announcements or confirmations, the Android Central team has dug up to the surface a few technical specifications of this handset – named as JioPhone 5G. Further, it shall sport a 6.5″ HD+ (1600 x 720) display with a punch-hole design for stuffing the front camera and rounded edges. With thin bezels for modern looks, the purported JioPhone 5G may come in different storage varients starting with 4GB/32GB options. With a microSD card slot for further expansion, this handset will support several 5G bands like the N3, N5, N28, N40, and N78. In terms of camera, it shall sport a 13MP primary camera and an 8MP selfie shooter, with a 5000mAh battery coming with 18W fast charging support. Finally, on the software front, JioPhone 5G comes with Android 11 Go edition out of the box, always-on Google Assistant, text-to-speech support, Google Translate, and instant translation via Google Lens support, alongside the Jio suite of apps.
