Moto Edge 30 Pro Review: Design
Motorola has given its new flagship device a very basic look and feel. Although its design is ordinary and minimalistic, its feel in your hand will impress you. The phone has a glass body which makes it look different and beautiful. The front has a 6.7-inch screen with a box-like shape with the borders being equal in width which makes the device very harmonious. The backside has a triple camera rear setup and Motorola branding in the center as well as at the bottom. The camera module is oval which makes it a perfect contrast from the phone’s shape. It has a wide-angle lens, an ultra-wide lens, and a macro lens. The right side of the smartphone has a power button as well as the volume rocker, while the left side is clean. The SIM card slot is at the bottom along with the speaker grille, mic, and a charging port. There is no headphone jack, which is a downer. The phone has Gorilla Glass 5 protection too which made it less prone to any damage that could happen if it slips out of one’s hand. The best part about the phone is that although it looks huge, it feels very light in your palm. I could easily maneuver it with one hand though it is not ultra-slim in its build. The phone comes in cosmos blue color variant and the back panel changes colors when kept under bright light and does not catch smudges easily, which is a huge plus for me. I felt that the overall design of the Moto Edge 30 Pro focuses on giving good performance along with being decent in looks. ALSO READ: Oppo Reno 7 5G Review: Meant for the photographer inside you
Moto Edge 30 Pro Review:Display
The Moto Edge 30 Pro sports a 6.7-inch pOLED HDR+ display panel with a 144Hz refresh rate. A high refresh rate means everything appears smooth and easy on the eye. The scrolling on the phone is very smooth. It has a touch sampling rate of 576Hz which makes it highly responsive to touch. Even a slight touch of the fingertip opens the app or does some other function. It has a 20:9 screen-to-body ratio and HDR10+ support. The picture quality while watching HD and HDR videos is excellent. The visuals are crisp, clear, and vibrant showing every detail. Sunlight legibility is also decent with a peak brightness level of 700 nits.
Moto Edge 30 Pro Review: Battery and Charging
There is nothing extraordinary in battery capacity as the Moto Edge 30 Pro features a 4800mAh battery which is less than many other phones. The 68W fast charging makes up for it as it charges real quick. I plugged it in for 10-15 minutes and it charged the phone from 37% to 75% which is good. The battery comes with USB Type-C support and once charged gives more than a day’s power in moderate usage mode while if you are watching videos and playing games continuously, it still gives 5+ hours of screentime. There is also 15W wireless charging and 15W power-sharing.
Moto Edge 30 Pro Review: Camera
For me, the Moto Edge 30 Pro camera offers satisfactory performance while falling a touch short of matching industry-leading iPhone 13 series and Samsung Galaxy S22 series cameras. The triple camera setup on the rear consists of a 50MP primary camera, a 50MP ultrawide camera, and a 2MP macro lens and the setup is a delight for those who are fond of clicking pictures to create memories. The quality of the pictures is crystal clear and so precise that one can make out every tiny little detail about the subject and its surroundings. It is a good smartphone camera to click the random pictures at parties, and gatherings in natural light or adequate artificial lights at night. The has a smile detection feature, yes you heard it right, if the subject in the frame just smiles, the phone clicks the picture on its own. I just had to point the lens in the subject’s direction and leave the job to the subject and the camera. As long as my sister kept smiling, pictures kept getting clicked on their own. This meant I did not have to worry about my hands shaking while I click the shutter to click a photograph. The photos taken in natural light were equally amazing color and brightness. Far-away objects could be zoomed in and clicked and those shots turned out to be decent enough. The ultra-wide sensor takes also takes decent photos but fails to justify its price tag. The phone comes with the capability to record 4k videos with OIS and EIS support, which gives it a plus one too. The field of view that can be covered is large and the 60MP selfie camera is good at its job too. The selfies clicked in artificial as well as natural light were rich and detailed. Overall, the camera setup is one of the strongest points of the Moto Edge 30 Pro.
Moto Edge 30 Pro Review:Performance
Moto Edge 30 Pro is powered by the latest from Qualcomm is Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. The Snapdragon best SoC is fabricated with a 4nm architecture that ensures processing power that goes up to 3.0GHz clocking speed at max. This makes multitasking easier, gaming smoother and experience way better. The device comes with 128GB UFS 3.1 storage which is more than enough to store a large amount of data and has 8GB LPDDR5 RAM support which ensures smoother operations. Folks at Motorola seem to have done excellent optimization of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC with time. When they announced the Moto Edge X30 Pro in the global markets we read several reports suggesting performance and heating issues. Motorola has ironed out all those as we didn’t encounter any of those during our testing phase. There were no lags while I played games like BGMI and Call of Duty Mobile. I was able to run multiple apps at one point in time without any issue. The device comes with a multi-channel thermal intelligent temperature control system on the moto edge 30 pros for temperature control. Even in games with high frame rates, the device never got warm or heated up after long gaming sessions. Mostly the area around the camera gets warm, but there was no such incident with this one. Here are the results of some benchmarking tests I ran on the Moto Edge 30 Pro- The software support complements the processor well. We get Android 12 on the MYUI 3.0 which comes with various personalization traits and allows you to change some system settings too. The UI is clean like all Moto devices and the only pre-installed apps you can find here are google apps and other basic apps like YouTube. The notification center has changed as a pull-do function can be used for some functions like adjusting brightness and other settings. Long-press an app to uninstall it and long-press the power button to switch off or reboot the device. The call quality is decent. There are no interruptions or hang-ups even while you are in a low network area like a basement or underground parking of a mall. The audio quality is strictly ok and could have been better so that it would complement the excellent picture quality more.
Review Verdict: Should you buy Moto Edge 30 Pro?
The Moto Edge 30 Pro is the renamed version of Moto X 30 that launched in China recently. It is a flagship device from Motorola that can be your choice if you want a combination of powerful hardware, a good display, capable cameras, and a Clean UI. It comes in under the 40k price range which makes it almost a complete package considering its features and specs. I said almost because, it has a very basic design, lacks a headphone jack and audio quality is fall short of amazing. So, if you need a great value for money balanced premium smartphone, Moto Edge 30 Pro will certainly be a good choice for you. Pros
