WhatsApp added a new mic button in the Status tab that’d allow users to record their own voice or either upload something from their library as a Status. More details like what type of audio files or how long the voice recording is allowed are yet to be known.
Voice Status in WhatsApp
Competing toughly against its rivals, we see WhatsApp rolling out new features every now and then. While some focus on privacy, others focus on groups and businesses. But now, we see a new addition coming that could be exciting for the general users. As spotted by WaBetaInfo, WhatsApp Android beta v2.22.16.3 is having support for a new feature called “voice status“, which lets users upload their recorded voices or some other audio from the device to status – that can be viewed by all their contacts as per privacy settings. This button appears right above the notes icon in the status tab, as per a screenshot shared by WaBetaInfo. What shows up when tapped on it is still unknown, as the feature isn’t working yet, even for the beta testers. But, it’s expected to work similarly to voice messages as in regular chats. Either uploaded audio files or recorded voices shall be end-to-end encrypted, as the whole is covered by WhatsApp. More details on this feature, like the length of an audio file, supported format, etc., are yet to be known. This is similar to Twitter’s voice tweets feature in iOS, which too is still in development. Over the course, we’ll learn more about these features gradually.
