As per XDA Developers, Microsoft may let Windows 7 and 8.1 users upgrade to Windows 11 for free, just like Windows 10 users. The leaked build has product key configurations supporting this upgrade, as seen by XDA developers.
A Free Upgrade to Windows 11
The Build Conference 2021 that happened earlier this month had no details regarding the upcoming Windows OS, as Microsoft scheduled a grand dedicated event for it – on June 24th, 2021. And with the official launch being less than a week, we have an ISO image of touted Windows 11 leaked online yesterday. This factory build was tested by many already and shared the screenshots of the new UI and few features. While the design upgrade isn’t so exciting as we expected, at least the upgrade could be offered for free. This possibility was shared by XDA developers, who found supporting product key configurations in Windows 11 build while digging in. As per screenshots shared by them, the listed product key configurations may support a free up-gradation to Windows 11 for the users of Windows 7 and 8.1, alongside Windows 10 users. The free upgrade support to Windows 11 for Win10 users will surely happen, as they’re on the latest compatible build. Microsoft has done the same in the past with pushing Win7 and Win8.1 users to try out Win10 for free, as they can have more people using the latest version, thus focused work. Also, Microsoft’s CEO had recently announced that Windows 10 is being used by over 1.3 billion users worldwide, so the company shouldn’t want to mess up with this number by making distinctions. Also to note, the product key configuration page has mentioned Windows 8 but listed no free up-gradation support to Windows 11. Thus, Win78 users should update their systems to Win10 or Win7 or Win8.1 to have Win11 for free.
